Washing of hands an effective way to fight Coronavirus

W.H.O recommends that frequent washing of hands is the best practice to fight against COVID-19 other wise known as Coronavirus.
Washing of hands in some part of the world especially the developing nation has become a business since the outbreak of the virus. A post on social media sometime ago went viral showing some local women having a sit with buckets of water and soap waiting for customers to approach them in other to wash their hands. People who do not have sanitizer will have to avail this services after they pay the amount that is required of them.



When we wash our hands, they are clean from bacteria, viruses or microorganisms that make us sick which we can't see. Washing hands can keep you healthy and prevent the spread of respiratory and diarrhea infections from one person to the other. Washing hands should be regular, a good practice that should not only be done when our hands are visible dirty and as long as you use your hands steadily from the moment you rise up from bed, then there is need to wash those hands regularly.

When to wash your hands

  • When you return home from the days job
  • After you are done with shopping
  • When you see your hands are visibly dirty
  • Before meal
  • After preparation of meals
  • Before and after caring for sick persons 
  • Before and after treating a wounds or cuts
  • After the use of toilet 
  • After changing diapers
  • After blowing of nose
  • After coughing
  • After sneezing
  • After rubbing your nose
  • After touching animals
  • After handling garbage
  • After handling pet food  and many more that are not mentioned here.
In the absence of soap and water, it's recommended that you use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol and follow the same step you use when you wash your hands

How to wash your hands
  • Wet your hands with clean water.
  • Apply soap and rub your hands palm to palm, between your fingers, under your nails and also draw focus to your thumb as well as the wrist.
  • Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds (you either hum and count from 1 to 20 slowly or hum the happy birthday song twice).
  • Rinse your hands well under clean water.
  • Dry your hands using clean towel.
