Earthquake In Nigeria

I don’t know how truthful this news is but Nigeria is not ready for an earthquake and i don’t pray it comes.

There were reports of a possible earth quake which occurred on September 11^th in Kwoi, Jaba LGA of Kaduna State. This news have being causing panic among the inhabitants of this state. The State Government  in a statement signed by Samuel Aruwan, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, said it had made a formal report to the appropriate authorities to investigate the development, report precisely on the event and issue appropriate guidance as it asked it’s citizens to remain calm.

Samuel Aruwan however confirmed the notification of geological and emergency agencies on the incident. They have been invited to investigate the quake in the Kwoi area of the state and provide appropriate guidance.

The governor sympathizes with the people of Kwoi area of the state over the reported news of a possible earth quake and has directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to mobilize to the area and comfort the citizens.

History Of Earth Tremors In Nigeria

Since the existence of Nigeria as a country it has been hit with several minor earthquakes despite the fact that it is not located within the Major seismic zones of the world. The first one occurring in 1933. Others were reported in 1939, 1964, 1984, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2000 and 2006. Of these events, only the 1984, 1990, 1994 and 2000 events were instrumentally recorded. They had body wave magnitudes ranging from 4.3 to 4.5, local magnitudes between 3.7 and 4.2 and surface were wave magnitudes of 3.7 to 3.9.

South Africa: The largest earthquake to hit this country to date was recorded with magnitude of 6.3 in the Western Cape town of Tulbagh in 1969 but as at August 2014, an earthquake with 5.3 magnitude tremor hit this country near Orkney, a  center of gold-mining operations living 1 person dead.

Democratic Republic of Congo:
BBC last update in 2005 of a powerful earthquake in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, near Lake Tanganyika and the Tanzanian border.

The shocks of this earth tremor was felt in Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and by the Indian Ocean. It was recorded to be a 6.8 magnitude which left a child dead after houses collapsed.
